The Vancouver Market
SEO services in Vancouver: why this city is several search markets, not one
Buying SEO services in Vancouver starts with accepting that the city is several search markets stacked on top of each other. The City of Vancouver had 662,248 residents at the 2021 Census, inside a metro area of about 2.64 million people, and buyers search very differently depending on where they sit in it. The Downtown core and the Burrard corridor, running up to Coal Harbour, hold much of the city's head office and corporate services work. Teck Resources works out of Bentall 5 on Burrard Street, Methanex out of the Waterfront Centre at 200 Burrard, and TELUS out of TELUS Garden on West Georgia, surrounded by the law, accounting, and advisory firms that serve them. A general counsel comparing firms on Burrard and a homeowner in Kitsilano both type "Vancouver" into Google, and they are looking for completely different things.
Beyond the core, the map keeps splitting. The City describes Central Broadway, from Main to Burrard, as the second-largest employment centre in B.C. after downtown, with around 100,000 jobs along the wider corridor, and the Broadway Subway is scheduled to open in fall 2027. Mount Pleasant, where Hootsuite is headquartered, mixes software companies, agencies, and breweries. The False Creek Flats plan, approved in 2017, aims to grow the area from roughly 8,000 jobs to more than 30,000 by 2047, anchored by the new St. Paul's Hospital and the Emily Carr and Great Northern Way campus. Yaletown's business improvement association represents more than 750 businesses. Each of these areas produces its own local results and its own idea of which firms count as nearby.
A large share of the commercially valuable searches here are B2B. Invest Vancouver counted almost 125,000 technology jobs in the region in 2021, nearly one in every ten jobs, with digital media and entertainment employment up 104 percent since 2009. Creative BC estimates that film and television production spending in B.C. reached $3.56 billion in 2024. The Port of Vancouver moved a record 170.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2025. That economy generates searches like "VFX pipeline vendor", "customs broker Vancouver", or "employment lawyer for tech companies", and those buyers rarely use the map pack. They read capability pages and, increasingly, ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overviews for a shortlist.
The consumer side is crowded in its own way. Real estate, legal, dental, cosmetic, and hospitality categories are contested by businesses with years of reviews and links behind them. The region is also one of Canada's most linguistically diverse. Statistics Canada's 2021 Census found Mandarin was the non-official language spoken most often at home by the largest number of people in Metro Vancouver; next door in Burnaby, 11 percent of residents speak Mandarin and 8 percent Cantonese most often at home, and in Surrey nearly one in five residents speaks Punjabi at home. Pages in those languages, produced with AI-assisted translation and with professional human review arranged on request, can reach searches that English-only competitors never see.
The SEO market itself is busy. Google Ads keyword data for Canada (pulled through DataForSEO in October 2026) puts "SEO Vancouver" at roughly 2,900 searches a month on average, "SEO company Vancouver" around 1,900, and "SEO services Vancouver" and "SEO agency Vancouver" around 1,300 each, with demand peaking in the fall and winter and dropping sharply in summer. Many of those searchers are really asking for the best SEO company in Vancouver, which is why so many results are ranked lists. Lists are a fine starting point, but they rarely tell you who will do the work or how they would handle your part of the city.
So whether you are looking for an SEO expert in Vancouver, an SEO firm to take over from your current provider, or simply some SEO help with a site that has stalled, good search engine optimization in Vancouver, BC should start with a map of your real market: which districts, services, buyers, and search surfaces. Good SEO marketing is decided by evidence from your own data, not by whichever package a provider happens to sell.Signal & Form is based here, the consultant who scopes your program is the one who does the work, and if you arrived from a "best SEO company in Vancouver" list, the evaluation checklist in the FAQ below is the one we would use ourselves.

Local Pain Points
What our Vancouver SEO services include
The mix depends on whether you sell to local customers, to other businesses, or both. Most Vancouver programs draw on these components, and each one is scoped to your real market rather than sold as a fixed package.
Every Vancouver business comes in with a different starting point. Some need a Google Business Profile fix. Others need a full technical SEO overhaul. The work is tailored, but the focus areas are consistent.
We start with the highest-impact lever first: the one that moves the needle in weeks, not quarters.
Where we focus in Vancouver
- SEO audit: a technical crawl, Search Console review, local visibility check by district, and an AI-answer check, delivered as a ranked fix list rather than a 90-page PDF
- Technical SEO: crawling, indexation, site architecture, JavaScript rendering, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and migration planning, written up as tickets your developers can act on
- Local SEO services by district: Google Business Profile, citations, and area pages for Downtown, Yaletown, Gastown, Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano, or the Broadway corridor, only where you genuinely have a presence
- Multi-location and branch SEO across Metro Vancouver, with a location page, profile governance, and a review process for each real location
- B2B and enterprise search: capability, service, industry, and practice-area pages built around the searches buyers and procurement teams actually run
- Working inside enterprise constraints: brand and legal review, CMS limits, staging environments, and release cycles
- GEO for AI search (also called AI SEO or answer engine optimization), so ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews can describe and cite your business accurately
- Multilingual pages in Chinese, Punjabi, or other languages your customers use, produced with AI-assisted translation, with professional human review arranged on request, and correct hreflang
- Reporting tied to calls, form fills, and pipeline, using your own Search Console, analytics, and CRM data
Our Process
How we approach seo work in Vancouver
Baseline audit
Technical crawl, Search Console review, local visibility by district, competitor comparison, and a check of how AI answers describe you today. You get a prioritized list, not a 90-page PDF.
Search map
We decide which districts, services, and buyer searches are worth competing for, weighing search demand, commercial value, and how contested each one is in Vancouver.

Fixes are specified, handed to your developers or implemented directly, and verified after release. Business details, schema, and Google Business Profiles are cleaned up at the same time.
Content that answers the search
Service, location, and capability pages with real Vancouver detail, plus supporting articles where they earn their place. Every page has a clear job and a target query.
Reputation and GEO
Advice on earning genuine mentions through the associations, partners, and publications you are already connected to, plus the structure and consistency AI search tools rely on when they cite a business.
Reporting and quarterly planning
A monthly report tied to leads and pipeline, and a quarterly review to reset priorities based on what is actually producing business.

Common questions about seo in Vancouver
Usually it comes down to a few fixable things. Their Google Business Profile is more complete, uses the right primary category, and collects reviews steadily, while yours may be listed under a broad category or an address Google cannot match to your website. Their service pages say plainly what they do and where, so both Google and AI tools can quote them; yours may describe everything on one page, or bury the city name in a footer. And their business details (name, address, phone, hours) are consistent across directories and articles, which is what AI answers lean on when they choose a business to name. An SEO audit for your Vancouver business checks each of these against the competitors who are winning, then ranks the fixes by how much they are likely to move.
Use a short, honest checklist. Ask who will actually do the work, and meet that person before you sign. Ask for a sample audit or report. Ask how they would treat your specific search geography: downtown versus Broadway versus the suburbs, one location versus ten. Ask what they will change on your site in the first 90 days and what they need from your developers. Ask how they report, and make sure it ties to calls, form fills, and pipeline, not only rankings. Walk away from anyone who guarantees a number one ranking, sells link packages by the hundred, or will not let you own your Google Business Profile, analytics, and content. Plenty of good Vancouver firms pass this test; pick the one whose answers are specific to you. If you are comparing individual SEO consultants rather than SEO agencies in Vancouver, the consultant profile linked on this page covers that side of the decision.
It depends on what you need more of: senior judgment or production volume. An agency suits large volumes of content, design, and paid media under one roof. A senior consultant suits work where the hard part is diagnosis, prioritization, and working with your developers. Signal & Form sits in between: the consultant who scopes the work also does the work, with a small bench of trusted specialists for content and technical volume.
Monthly SEO retainers here start from $2,500 a month for a single-location business, from $3,500 for multi-location or B2B programs, and from $5,000 for competitive categories, with enterprise programs from $10,000 a month. If a retainer is more than you need right now, a one-time SEO audit or Google Business Profile cleanup is the affordable way to start: you get a prioritized list your own staff or developer can work through. What we will not do is sell a cheap package of directory submissions or bought links, because in Vancouver categories those rarely move anything and can cause problems later.
A crawl of your site for indexation, speed, structured data, and broken pages; a review of your Search Console data to see which queries you already appear for and where you stall; a check of your Google Business Profile, categories, and reviews against the businesses that win your local searches; a look at how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews describe you today; and a short list of fixes ranked by impact and effort. You keep the findings whether or not you continue.
Yes. We sign NDAs, complete vendor and security questionnaires, and work inside your own accounts (Search Console, analytics, CMS, tag manager) using the access levels your team grants, rather than moving your data into our tools. We keep data access to what the work needs. We do not hold certifications such as SOC 2, so we work within your security requirements rather than claiming certifications we do not have.
One senior consultant leads the engagement and does the strategic and technical work personally. A small bench of trusted specialists handles volume such as content production and implementation support, reviewed before anything ships. Larger programs are staged, usually audit, then a pilot on one section or region, then rollout, so scope always matches capacity. If you need a full-service agency running SEO, paid search, and creative across dozens of markets at once, a larger firm may serve you better, and we will say so on the first call.
Crawling and indexation analysis, site architecture and internal linking, JavaScript rendering checks, Core Web Vitals, structured data, duplicate and parameter URL handling, international or multilingual setup with hreflang, and migration planning when you are replatforming. We write tickets your developers can act on and verify fixes after they ship.
Yes. Businesses with branches in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, or the North Shore need a location page and a well-managed Google Business Profile for each real location, consistent business details everywhere, and a review process each branch can sustain. Because we are based in Vancouver, in-person working sessions anywhere in the region are easy to arrange.
Yes. North Vancouver and West Vancouver are part of the same in-person service area as the city, and the North Vancouver SEO page covers the North Shore market in more detail. Businesses on Vancouver Island, in Victoria, Nanaimo, or elsewhere, are served remotely, with video working sessions and the same reporting. Search on the Island behaves differently from the Lower Mainland, with more tourism-driven and seasonal queries, so the plan is built for that market rather than copied from a Vancouver one.
Yes. We call it GEO, or generative engine optimization; you will also see it sold as AI SEO services or answer engine optimization. AI tools tend to cite businesses that are clearly described on their own site, consistently described across third-party sources, and backed by reviews and credible mentions. We structure your pages, schema, and business information around that, then check how AI answers describe you for the Vancouver queries that matter. No one can guarantee an AI citation, and we will not pretend otherwise.
No. Link packages are not part of any Signal & Form retainer. Mentions from associations, suppliers, partners, and local publications you are genuinely connected to do help, and we will point out where those relationships already exist and how to make the most of them. Earning them is advice and coordination, not a product we resell by the dozen.
Technical fixes and Google Business Profile improvements often show movement within the first two to three months. Competitive non-branded terms, such as legal, real estate, dental, or broad "SEO company" style queries, usually take six months or more to compound. We report monthly so you can see the trajectory before rankings settle.
